~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ What is a Decan? Each astrological sign is approximately 30 degrees in width and is divided into three 10-day portions called decans, which represent the (1) Cardinal, (2) Fixed, & (3) Mutable phases of the influence. Each decan is assigned a Word that further defines the sign and the influences we ALL feel during that 10-day portion of the astrological month. Why study the influence? In the Druidic Craft of the Wise, we are taught that in order to become proficient in our magical practice we need to progress spiritually toward the Perfected state of the Creators, our Spiritual Parents, and elder brothers and sisters, the gods and angels. To do this, we need to assimilate all the strengths of each zodiacal sign and overcome the weaknesses. Study help: To help us acquire the strengths of each sign we are urged to meditate upon the meaning of the current decan, to find quotable quotes and words of wisdom to help us understand how we can apply these strengths in our own personality. Post the quotes that speak to you on your bathroom mirror or computer monitor to help remind you of these qualities, and share the best with others, that we all might benefit on our Way to Perfection. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SYMPATHETIC: QUOTES OF THE DAY ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ “Our souls sit close and silently within, And their own web from their own entrails spin; And when eyes meet far off, our sense is such, That, spider like, we feel the tenderest touch.” ~ John Dryden, “Mariage a la Mode” (act II, sc. 1) "All joy or sorrow for the happiness or calamities of others is produced by an act of the imagination, that realizes the event however fictitious or remote, by placing us, for a time, in the condition of him whose fortune we contemplate; so that we feel, whatever emotions would be excited by the same good or evil happening to ourselves." ~ Johnson: Rambler #60 (October 13, 1750) “The secrets of life are not shown except to sympathy and likeness.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson, Representative Men—Montaigne ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ TIME FOR STILLNESS “We're so engaged in doing things to achieve purposes of outer value that we forget that the inner value, the rapture that is associated with being alive, is what it's all about.” ~ Joseph Campbell The sages all say that the path to liberation is found in entering the stillness within. To experience that stillness, we need to be willing to regularly stop the activity for a while. How do we do this in a busy life? We set our priorities. Perhaps it means giving up a TV program or using a coffee break to grab a few moments of solitude. Perhaps we have to ask our partner, relative or neighbor to give us 30 minutes of time away from the kids. If we really want something, we can make it happen.
